The sale of smartphones by Oppo and OnePlus is no longer permitted in Germany. After both businesses rejected the conditions imposed by the German court, the order was made. Nokia, a Finnish corporation, filed a case alleging patent infringement against Oppo and OnePlus, which it later prevailed in.
In July of this year, a German court in Mannheim found that OnePlus and Oppo did not possess legitimate licences for the 4G and 5G technology they use in their handsets, and the court ruled in favour of Nokia. The court ordered that a solution be reached between the parties, but they were unable to do so. The court ultimately concluded that Oppo and OnePlus smartphone sales in Germany would be prohibited.
The product page has been deleted from Oppo's official website in Germany as a result of the ban order, along with the statement "Product information is not currently available on our website." Can I continue to use OPPO products without limitations, get support, and get future updates? is another topic the business has addressed. With a note stating “Yes, you can continue to use your OPPO products without restrictions, access support and of course, you will also receive all future updates.”
The business will continue to sell accessories like earbuds and mobile chargers in Germany in the interim. Similar to this, OnePlus has taken every smartphone it sells off of its German website's product page.
For each OnePlus and Oppo smartphone sold, Nokia allegedly requested a settlement payment of €2.50 in licencing costs. This demand was made for both brands' global sales as well as their sales in Germany. It is simple to understand how significant that settlement amount might prove to be given how well-known these companies have become on the international market. Therefore, it won't come as a surprise if both businesses decide it would be best to completely leave the German market.
However, the trouble doesn’t end there as Nokia has filed lawsuits against major BBK-owned companies across the whole of Europe. If these courts decide in favor of Nokia, we might see brands like Oppo, OnePlus and others exit the European markets.
