In the final months of this year, Qualcomm, which is frequently blamed for the issues with the Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipsets, will introduce the next generation flagship chipset. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is scheduled to go on sale at a later date and will perform substantially better than its predecessor.
Release date for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
During the Snapdragon Summit in November each year, Qualcomm's top-tier chipsets are introduced. Mid-range chipsets may possibly be showcased along with the launch in Hawaii. From November 15–17 of this year, the new Snapdragon flagship chipset will be presented, following which manufacturers will launch their new products. The new Xiaomi 13 series will be introduced in December following the release of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in November.
Who makes the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor?
Over the previous two years, Qualcomm has experienced significant issues with chipsets made by Samsung. Despite having a strong cooling system, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 devices' performance suffered when the chipset was heavily throttled. Similar to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 was released in June but is much more stable because it is produced by TSMC. Like the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be produced by TSMC.
Information on the upcoming chipset suggests that it will most likely go by the codename SM8550. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which will be produced using 4nm manufacturing technology, will have faster clock speeds and a stronger 5G modem than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 8+ Gen 1. The ISP is also anticipated to greatly improve with the next-generation chipset.
