According to a Bloomberg report from earlier this week, the Indian government intends to outlaw Chinese phones priced under Rs 12,000 throughout the nation. According to a recent Livemint story, there is no such plan in place by the administration. at least for the time being.

According to the report, senior government figures have denied that the centre has any plans to exclude Chinese manufacturers from the market for entry-level smartphones. According to a government official familiar with the developments, "There is no such proposal under consideration at the ministry of electronics and information technology," according to a Livemint report.

According to the initial report, the Indian government wants to promote local brands by prohibiting Chinese companies from selling phones for less than Rs. 12,000 in India. Therefore, the main goal was to push homegrown companies like Lava, Micromax, among others. Notably, Chinese smartphone manufacturers currently dominate the budget smartphone segment or the under Rs 15,000 price segment with some share garnered by Samsung and a few other non-Chinese companies.

The conflict between China and India has actually been going on for quite some time. Recently, certain Chinese smartphone manufacturers have come under fire. The ED has recently brought charges against several Chinese companies, including Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo, for alleged tax cheating.

The Chinese app market has long been of interest to the Indian government. The Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) software, often known as the Indian version of PUBG Mobile, was recently removed from the Apple App store and the Google Play store by order of the government. In India, it is no longer possible to download the app.

The authorities and the game developer have not yet disclosed why the mobile game is being restricted in the nation. These are after the Indian government banned hundreds of Chinese apps in 2020, including TikTok, PUBG Mobile, and more.
