The highly regarded Kindle e-reader from Amazon may lose a crucial feature. The older devices won't be able to purchase books from the Kindle Store, according to Tech Radar. This modification was first disclosed by the corporation in May, and it is currently being carried out. The fourth- and fifth-generation models of the Kindle, which were introduced in 2011 and 2012, are the affected models, the site added. The change won't render the devices obsolete, it was stressed, because books may still be sent to these readers after being purchased from websites or other devices.

Users may access their Kindle model number in the settings menu under Device Info, according to Tech Radar. These older devices can also receive emails, PDFs, and other file types, and the procedure is flawless.

Despite the fact that the precise cause of Amazon's decision is unknown, Good e-Reader has hypothesized that a Transport Layer Security (TLS) incompatibility may be to blame. The earlier TLS 1.0 and 1.1 protocols, which have a number of vulnerabilities, are supported by older devices. Older TLS versions are not supported by outdated e-readers due to hardware restrictions.

In a retreat by a US IT company from the repressive Chinese market, Amazon had announced in June that it will stop supplying shops in the nation with its Kindle e-readers and close its Kindle e-bookstore there next year.

According to the company's official WeChat account, the Kindle China online bookstore will stop selling ebooks as of June 30 of next year. However, users will still be able to download any purchased books for an additional year after that.
