Sennheiser's amazing Ambeo family will be getting a new soundbar, but you don't have to wait until IFA 2022 to learn about it—you can read about it right now on Amazon. Or, at least, you could at the time this article was written; in case it vanishes before you see it, we'll list all the main features below.

The new Sennheiser Ambeo soundbar is listed here (opens in new tab), and here is the listing for the new optional small subwoofer that goes with it (opens in new tab).

The new Sennheiser Ambeo soundbar, which was spotted by user djsimmz and posted to AVSforum(opens in new tab), includes seven full-range drivers to create 3D sound and two four-inch subwoofers inside the bar to make it an all-in-one speaker with powerful bass.

The original Sennheiser Ambeo 3D was so well known for its 3D sound trick, but it was huge and extremely expensive. Although the greatest soundbars these days are so much cheaper and yet produce superb 3D Dolby Atmos sound, it's difficult to recommend to many people here in 2022. Nevertheless, it is still a favourite among home theatre fans (and writers) who have tried it.

Which, apparently, is where the new version enters the picture. We don't currently have a price, however djsimmz mentions a price of $1,500, which would make it very expensive for a soundbar. However, that price is in line with expensive one-box solutions like the Sony HT-A7000 or Devialet Dione.

Here is the Sennheiser Ambeo Soundbar Plus; notice how the grille is primarily made of fabric. After all, there is a lot of sound that needs to be released. (Amazon credit for image)

But this is where the wild new Ambeo really shines. It's not necessary to have a single-box soundbar. As previously announced, Sennheiser will undoubtedly also sell the Ambeo Sub, a compact subwoofer with a single eight-inch up-firing speaker. The sub will take you down to about 27Hz, although the soundbar alone can produce bass depths of roughly 37Hz, per the Amazon offering.

Yes, adding a single wireless sub is not strange. What do you think about the fact that you can pair your soundbar with up to four Ambeo Subs? Additionally, keep in mind that the soundbar itself still has two subwoofers.

According to the listing, the Ambeo system would automatically adjust the bass balance of the subs' sound to match their placement in your space.

There will also be an app that gives you the option to change the setup's sound options and other features. Along with the less common 360 Reality Audio format, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X are supported. You can stream music using Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay, Tidal, Spotify Connect, and Chromecast.

Why use four subs?

Even though the new Ambeo is a soundbar-based system, the flexibility to add several subs to your configuration is a hint that Sennheiser is producing it to satisfy high-end standards.

Low-frequency sound waves don't truly travel as far as mid- or treble soundwaves do, provided they are adjusted appropriately and aren't rattling the walls.

Here is the information provided on the Amazon page regarding the subwoofer's contents. (Amazon credit for image)

I recently went to a showroom for home installations that had an impressive home theatre setup, complete with a high-end laser projector, a Bowers & Wilkins speaker system, plush chairs for roughly 8 people, etc. The only way to guarantee an even, unidirectional bass that reaches everyone in the room is with four subwoofers, one in each corner of the system.

Therefore, it appears like Sennheiser is seriously considering the modern home theatre enthusiast here. Someone who wants to be able to easily conceal the subwoofers away but has a large living room and one of the best 4K projectors or perhaps one of the best 85-inch TVs. This is possible because the Ambeo Sub appears to be roughly the same volume as the sub you get with the incredibly small Yamaha SR-C30A.

Perhaps you only need two speakers to get the best bass from your 55-inch TV setup rather than four. If you'd rather keep things organised, you could just stay with the built-in bass.

Given the history of the Ambeo soundbar's heritage, I believe the entire thing is brilliant, and I'm anticipating great things from this.

The original Sonos Sub can be used alone or in pairs, so assuming the much-rumored Sonos Sub Mini is true, it had better offer at least the option for two to work together immediately. In fact, you have to wonder if this won't take some of the wind out of the sails of the Sub Mini.
