The OnePlus 10T will become official on August 3, which is next Wednesday, but in typical OnePlus style, we are already receiving a tonne of official information. The Chinese company has also spoken to The Verge about the missing alert slider, while outing a new set of official images. Earlier today, we saw a shot of the two colour versions side by side.

It's difficult for any OnePlus fan to look at these without immediately noticing what's missing—the iconic alert slider, which was initially clearly inspired by Apple but later came to be associated with OnePlus in the Android community because it was essentially the only company to use it consistently.

Then there were some less expensive Nord smartphones without it, followed by the 10R, which was only available in India, and now, for the first time in many years, a OnePlus product with a global launch will not include the alert slider. OnePlus made the reasons for the removal known prior to the launch, demonstrating their awareness of how contentious this will be.

The explanation would undoubtedly feel familiar if you were alive when most phones stopped having a headphone port. The slider had to be removed in order for the 10T to have enough internal room for other components, which are required for "high wattage charging, a huge battery capacity, and improved antenna signal," according to OnePlus' chief designer Hope Liu.

Due to the 10T's increased charging speed, the fast charging technology requires two charging pumps in comparison to just one in the OnePlus 10 Pro. The forthcoming model also features a new 15-antenna system, which ought to enhance signal when holding the phone horizontally.

The alert slider may appear modest, but according to Liu, it takes up 30 square millimetres of motherboard space. If it had remained, the business would have had to stack the motherboard, increasing its thickness (and likely increasing its cost, although this isn't addressed). Therefore, the company's chosen compromise was to remove the alert slider.

It appears that OnePlus believes users will prefer the faster-than-80W charging and marginally improved signal when gaming more than the alert slider. How do you feel? Is the business correct in this assertion, or did it err and further alienate its user base?

The Hasselblad branding is also gone, which you might have missed, and according to Liu, this happened because OnePlus "intended to deliver an ultimate performance flagship smartphone at the device's selected price range." It appears that paying to licence the Hasselblad name is not a cheap endeavour.

The main camera of the OnePlus 10T will employ a Sony IMX766 sensor and enable 10-bit colour as well as "enhanced HDR photography." Liu has also verified a 6.7-inch display, and a prominent Twitter leaker has also revealed the rest of the specifications.

Thus, it is claimed that the panel has a 120 Hz refresh rate. Unsurprisingly, the phone's processor is a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, and it is paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. A 2 MP ornamental sensor and an 8 MP ultrawide camera are also included on the back (monochrome, depth, or macro). A 16 MP camera is responsible for taking selfies, and the battery's capacity is said to be 4,800 mAh with 150W of charging power. The phone will, of course, run OxygenOS 12.1 on top of Android 12.
