The Huawei Matebook 16s went global earlier this week after its May launch in China. We finally received the sample that the business kindly sent to us for review.

With its most recent 12th generation Intel processors, this laptop represents Huawei's current flagship model. Our unit uses the middle of the three processors: Core i5-12500H, Core i7-12700H, and Core i9-12900H.

The 512GB or 1TB PCIe SSD and 16GB LPDDR5 RAM are standard on all Matebook 16s laptops. For testing, we have the larger storage, but there shouldn't be much of a performance difference.

This laptop has an uneven weight distribution and weighs just under 2 kg. When opened, it can be a little difficult to carry because of the weight of the top side of the keyboard and the area around the hinge.

The Matebook 16s' touchpad is an impressive size. Although it is never a bad feat, it isn't exactly a surprise since we've already handled the Matebook 16, which has the exact same body.

The laptop's screen size is indicated by the "16" in the name. 2,520 x 1,680 pixels are displayed in a 3:2 aspect ratio on the 16" touch screen panel. The fact that Huawei did not upgrade the panel and it still only has 300 nits of brightness—not terrible, but hardly impressive—left us very disappointed.

We're dealing with an Intel Iris Xe, which has advantages in terms of weight and battery life but has limitations in terms of video editing and gaming. This is another thing Huawei does with all of its laptops.

The retail box includes a 90W Huawei SuperCharge USB-C charger, which is used to recharge the 84Wh battery. The fastest Core i9 model receives a 135W adapter. Additionally, because it adheres to Huawei's internal standard, it will offer quick top-ups for Matepad tablets and P and Mate smartphones.

If the upgrades are significant enough to justify the Matebook 16s' €1,699 price tag, our review will reveal that. Keep going!
