The Xiaomi 12S series of handsets are not only the world's first to feature Qualcomm's newest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, but they also proudly display their new cooperation with Leica in the smartphone camera industry. The Xiaomi 12S continues to surprise reviewers even as the devices are being delivered to them, as it is demonstrated in one of the most recent performance review videos to go viral online that the Xiaomi 12S Pro and Xiaomi 12S Ultra outperform Apple's iPhone 13 Pro Max in a screen-on-time (SoT) endurance test.
The performance of Xiaomi's most recent flagships was recently compared to that of its rivals in the market by Chinese technology YouTuber Geekerwan. The Xiaomi 12S Pro and 12S Ultra are compared in the movie against the Xiaomi 12 Pro, Realme GT 2 Pro, Redmi K40, Redmi K50 Pro, and, of course, the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max, the pinnacle of smartphone performance.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 found on the Xiaomi 12S Pro and 12S Ultra outperforms all other Android flagships in terms of raw CPU and GPU performance, including the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on the Realme GT 2 Pro and the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC on the Redmi K50 Pro, according to the 3DMark Wildlife Stress Test benchmark. However, the Apple A15 Bionic SoC in the iPhone 13 Pro Max still outperforms the 8+ Gen 1 SoC. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is a significant improvement over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in terms of stability, as it can now compete with 2022 premium SoC chips like the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 and Apple A15 Bionic chipsets in terms of performance.
The smartphone endurance test is up next, and this is where the findings get interesting. The Xiaomi 12S Pro and Ultra successfully depose Apple's iPhone 13 Pro Max as the top smartphone endurance contender!
In the video, it is demonstrated that the Xiaomi 12S Pro and 12S Ultra have surpassed Apple's previously believed to be unbreakable record of 7 hours and 42 minutes of screen on time by achieving astonishing screen on times of 7 hours and 50 minutes and 7 hours and 47 minutes, respectively.
With the same 4600mAh battery and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, the Xiaomi 12 Pro only managed a meagre and unsatisfactory 5 hours and 44 minutes of screen on time. However, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 has significantly increased battery life on the Xiaomi 12S Pro by a massive 2 hours.
The SoT endurance tests involved a mix of tasks, including Genshin Impact gaming, WeChat messaging, voice and video conversations, online browsing, TikTok, and video streaming. Each task required about 30 minutes of usage time before the battery ran out.
Be aware that these tests were conducted on China-specific versions of the Xiaomi 12S Pro, Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max, and other devices, all of which were using Chinese-language software. Therefore, an endurance test performed on these devices using software outside of China using global models could produce different endurance findings.
Even so, we now know that the Xiaomi 12S Pro and 12S Ultra represent a significant improvement over the Xiaomi 12 series, which was introduced back in December 2021, in terms of power efficiency and battery life. In fact, they are now capable of outperforming competitors like the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Giztop currently has the Xiaomi 12S Pro and Xiaomi 12S Ultra for for US$ 899 and US$ 1199, respectively.
