Today, Apple made a huge deal about privacy and security. The business declared that it would upgrade the Mac, iPhone, and iPad with a new security feature called "Lockdown Mode." High-profile individuals like journalists, activists, and politicians will be shielded from deliberate cyberattacks by this feature. Attackers won't be able to take advantage of the vulnerability in Apple's software thanks to the new tool.

One of the key challenges now is cybersecurity. There have been instances where governments and agencies used specific software to target high-profile people's smartphones. For instance, the NSO group's Pegasus software is frequently used to access peoples' phones using GIFs, links, and other methods.

According to a statement released by Apple on Wednesday, the new feature, named Lockdown Mode, will offer security for a "very limited percentage of people who experience grave, targeted threats." A user's gadget will reportedly be less vulnerable to physical and digital attacks thanks to the tool.

The Cupertino company claimed that the feature's main goal is to fend against attacks from "spyware" distributed by NSO Group and other businesses, particularly to government-sponsored organisations.

When activated, the "Lockdown Mode" will prevent FaceTime calls from unidentified individuals as well as invitations and link previews. Additionally, it will disable certain online browsing features by default, end wired connections to PCs, and perform other things.

"Apple makes the most secure mobile devices on the market," claimed Ivan Krsti, Apple's head of Security Engineering and Architecture. A ground-breaking feature, Lockdown Mode demonstrates our ongoing dedication to safeguarding users from even the rarest, most sophisticated assaults. Even though the vast majority of users will never fall prey to highly targeted cyberattacks, we will do all in our power to defend the small percentage of people who do.

"That involves continuing to design defences tailored for these users, as well as helping researchers and groups across the world doing critically important work in exposing mercenary corporations that create these digital attacks," Krsti continued.

For users of iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura, the new tool will be optional. Apple will improve
