It is confirmed that the Xiaomi 12S Ultra will be unveiled on July 4 in China. However, Xiaomi has made an intriguing revelation about the smartphone camera in advance of the impending launch. The business declared that the Xiaomi 12S ultra will feature a brand-new Sony primary sensor.

The recently published Xiaomi Weibo post claims that the long-rumored Sony IMX989 sensor will be included in the upcoming Xiaomi 12S Ultra. The 12S ultra will be the first smartphone to use the sensor, which has never been used in a mobile device before.

The manufacturer has acknowledged that the IMX989 is a sizable 1-inch sensor. The sensor's large size will allow for larger pixel sizes and more light absorption, even in dim lighting conditions. Additionally, it will deliver a better dynamic range performance and faster focusing speed.

Lei Jun, the co-founder and CEO of Xiaomi, also disclosed that Sony and Xiaomi worked together to develop the sensor, which cost $15 million to develop.

According to earlier leaks, Sony's IMX989 will be a 50-megapixel sensor. There are rumours that a 48MP 5x telephoto and 48MP ultra wide-angle sensor will be used in addition to the main sensor. We already know that Leica will design the smartphone's cameras.

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is probably going to provide excellent picture and video quality based on the specifics. The Xiaomi camera industry may undergo a revolution thanks to the smartphone.

As previously mentioned, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra will debut in China on July 4. The newest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Soc from Qualcomm is anticipated to power the phone, along with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512 GB of UFS 2.1 storage. A 4,800mAh battery with 67W wired and 50W wireless charging support is most likely included. It will come pre-installed with MIUI 13 based on Android 12.
