The Xiaomi 12 Ultra, which will be released later this year, will be a flagship example of what Xiaomi and Leica can accomplish together. However, the phone is set to be released in July, only a few months after the partnership was announced – what can we expect from the camera?
According to rumours, the 12 Ultra's camera hardware will be largely the same as the Mi 11 Ultra's. This means a 50 megapixel main camera (possibly with a new sensor), a 48 megapixel 5x telephoto module, and a 48 megapixel ultra wide camera. Yogesh Brar, a leakster, confirms this with a list of expected Ultra specifications.
A 3D ToF sensor will be added as an extra component. The selfie camera should be the same 20MP module that was used on the Ultra last year. Instead of the Mi 11 Ultra, the display panel appears to be from the Xiaomi 12 Pro – a 6.7" LTPO AMOLED panel with QHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate (the old Ultra had a 6.81" non-LTPO panel).
According to the leakster, the phone will be upgraded to the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and will include 8/12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256/512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. MIUI 13 will come pre-installed on the phone (based on Android 12).
Finally, there's the electric system, which includes a 4,800mAh battery with 67W wired and 50W wireless fast charging capabilities. The Pro model this year has 120W wired charging, and some rumours claim that the Ultra will as well, but there is conflicting information.
Some details are missing from these rumoured specifications. Will the Xiaomi 12 Ultra, for example, have a secondary display on the back? That is unknown, but we have heard that it will feature a leather texture on the back and the iconic red Leica logo. Speculative renders show a glossy finish, so it could be a limited edition. There's also no back display.
