Review of the Tecno SPARK 9 Pro: Selfie Phones Can Be So Cheap

The SPARK 9 Pro, a new phone from Tecno, will be unveiled today. I'm sure everyone is familiar with the Tecno brand. In emerging countries and areas, their phones are quite popular. One of their latest entry-level phones, the SPARK 9 Pro, is available for roughly $170. Surprisingly, after using the SPARK 9 Pro for a bit, it changed my mind on entry-level phones.

Let's take a look at what's included in the SPARK 9 Pro's box. A sturdy computer casing. This case appeals to me because, unlike soft cases, PC cases do not become yellow over time. Then there's a charger that uses 18 watts. A corded headset, as well as a card pin and charging cable. Yes, it has a jack for headphones. The message alert light is an even rarer addition than the headphone jack.

On phones without AOD, this is quite useful. The SIM card slot also accepts dual SIM and SD cards, as well as having a red rubber ring to prevent water and dust infiltration, implying that the SPARK 9 Pro is waterproof to some extent. Although it is inexpensive, it does not include a Micro-B charging port. In addition, instead of being on the back, the fingerprint recognition is on the side. It also appears to be rather attractive.

The back and bezel are completely flat, and the hand grip is partially frosted. The logo and phrase are on the right side; I like to put them in the corner this manner rather than extending the slogan. The camera module is quite simple, with only two circles. That's correct, an entry-level phone camera doesn't need to be overly complicated; simplicity is ideal.

Camera on the TECNO SPARK 9 Pro

The front camera of the SPARK 9 Pro is 32 megapixels. When compared to several 8MP or 16MP front cameras, it wins in terms of pixel count. There's also an AI Portrait Enhancer tool that improves the sharpness of your images even in low-light situations. It's not a gimmick; it actually improves the photo's clarity. And, as you can see in this shot, the mole is eradicated from the face in its beauty mode.

It even has a Super Night mode on the front camera, which increases exposure and lowers noise at night. It also boasts the Ring Screen Fill-in Light, which is a message alert light that can also be utilised as a front-facing flash and is only found on a few selfie-focused phones.

Simply put, it flipped my idea of entry phones on its head. When it's very dark, it's not a good idea to use the flash because your hair will mix in with the background. Many flagship phones only have a front camera that can record video in 1080p, but this 32MP front camera can capture video in 2K resolution. It doesn't have EIS, but when you consider its budget, the Tecno SPARK 9 Pro's front camera feels like it's miles ahead of phones in its price range.

Let's look at the back camera now that we've covered the front camera. In comparison to the front camera, the rear camera on the SPARK 9 Pro is a little less impressive. The other two lenses are auxiliary lenses, and there is only one 50MP main camera. However, in everyday use, the main camera is surprisingly good. The photos are crisp and have a good dynamic range. The bokeh effect in portrait mode is excellent, possibly due to the Bokeh camera. I particularly enjoy the bokeh background effect; as long as it doesn't go wrong, it looks almost identical to a photo taken with a professional camera.

While the images taken during the day aren't significantly better than those taken by other manufacturers, the photos taken in low light will undoubtedly surprise you. In auto mode, night shots are just like any other entry-level phone, with easy partial overexposure, which is to be expected at this price point. However, if you switch to super night mode, the quality of your images will improve dramatically. The dynamic range has improved, and low-light exposure has returned to normal, resulting in a photo that looks like it was taken with a $300+ phone. In general, entry-level phones cannot achieve this, thus it appears like TECNO has put a lot of effort into the night mode algorithm.

Performance and Battery Life of the TECNO SPARK 9 Pro

The SPARK 9 Pro's display is an FHD+ LCD panel. This waterdrop LCD screen is the industry standard for low-cost phones.
