AMD said at Computex Taipei 2022 that the firm would release its entry-level Ryzen and Athlon 7000 series mobile CPUs, codenamed "Mendocino," aimed at Chromebooks and low-cost Windows devices.

We have accumulated various leaks and rumours concerning AMD's "Mendocino" CPUs so far, according to several sites online (via ITHome and wccftech).

The AMD Ryzen 3 7420U, AMD Athlon Gold 7220U, and AMD Athlon Silver 7020U are the three members of AMD's forthcoming "Mendocino" 7000 series mobile entry-level APU family.

There isn't much information on the Athlon 7000 series mobile APUs, but ITHome recently revealed that the highest-end of the "Mendocino" CPUs – the Ryzen 3 7420U – would include a quad-core CPU arrangement with eight threads. All four CPU cores will be based on AMD's older Zen 2 architecture, which will celebrate its third birthday in 2022.

In terms of graphics, the Ryzen 3 7420U APU's integrated graphics will have 1 WGP (2 CUs) with RDNA2 Graphics.

However, when compared to its predecessor, the Ryzen 3 5400U, the Ryzen 3 7420U APU appears to be lacking. The Ryzen 3 5400U, for example, features a four-core, eight-thread CPU, but the cores are designed on the newer Zen 3 architecture. In the meantime, the Ryzen 5400U's GPU is a 6 CUs Vega Integrated Graphics.

The AMD "Mendocino" APUs will support dual-channel x32 LPDDR5 RAM, which can go up to 32GB, and will also support VP9 and AV1 video encoding, as previously stated in internet leaks.

AMD revealed at Computex that "Mendocino" APUs would be released in Q4 2022 and will be available by the end of the year. The "Mendocino" APUs are expected to be offered in mainstream laptops costing between $399 and $699, according to the firm.

In addition to the enhanced APU architecture, "Mendocino" is built using TSMC's 6nm technology, resulting in increased power efficiency. AMD has stated that Mendocino will let Windows laptops to last more than 10 hours on a single charge. Lenovo's planned 2022 IdeaPad 1 series of entry-level notebooks would be among the first to integrate the APU, AMD said on stage at Computex 2022.
