The Information and Broadcasting Ministry demanded Twitter and YouTube on Saturday to erase footage of a perfume brand's campaign that sparked uproar for "promoting gang rape culture" from their social media platforms.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting wrote to Twitter and YouTube, claiming that the films were "detrimental to the representation of women in the interest of decency and morality" and in breach of the Information Technology Act (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code).

A great number of social media users were outraged by the perfume company Layer Shot's videos, which they said were intended to advocate sexual aggression against women.

"The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has received notification that an improper and insulting deodorant advertising is spreading on social media. The Ministry has requested that all instances of this commercial be removed immediately from Twitter and YouTube "a representative for the government said.

The ASCI, in response to the criticism created by the advertising, issued the following statement on Twitter: "The advertisement is against the public interest and violates the ASCI Code. We took swift action and advised the advertiser that the ad will be suspended pending an inquiry." Farhan Akhtar, Richa Chadha, and Swara Bhasker, among others, have slammed the perfume company for encouraging "gang rape culture" in its recent ads.

Akhtar took to Twitter to say that the individuals behind the "tasteless" ads should be embarrassed.

"What a sick and twisted mind it must take to come up with, authorise, and develop these disgusting 'gang rape' innuendo advertising for body spray!! Embarrassing, "wrote the actor.

Both the business and the advertising agency should be "sued for the filth they're delivering," according to Chadha.

"This advertisement is not a fluke. A brand goes through multiple stages of decision-making while creating an advertisement. Does everyone believe rape is a comedy, including the creatives, the screenplay, the agency, the client, and the casting? Remarkable! "she sent out a tweet

Bhasker described the advertising in the Hyderabad gang-rape case as "beyond horrible."

"In Hyderabad, a teenage girl was gang raped; similar instances occur on a regular basis in India. Companies like @layerr shot prefer to produce TV commercials laughing about and "cool-ifying" rape and gangrape. It's disgusting! Not only deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly deafeningly de This is a disgrace! What company did it come from? "she wrote a message.

Sona Mohatra, a singer, also slammed the commercials, writing, "Gang-rape is the theme. I'm gagging after seeing that on my Twitter feed, and I'm not sure if giving them more visibility is worse." Rishita, who describes herself as a social media influencer, commented on Twitter in response to the advertising, "It's sickening and awful how these kinds of ads get allowed. Is @layerr shot a pervert's paradise? Shot's second commercial with such disgusting themes."
