A new OTA update for the Microsoft Surface Duo 2 has begun trickling out, bringing a slew of enhancements and new capabilities to the Microsoft foldable. The update is 736MB in size and updates the Duo 2 to version 2022.418.98.

The Glance Bar is a narrow section of the visible screens that displays information like time, date, and alerts. Notifications for third-party chat applications will now be displayed in the update. Previously, the Glance Bar only displayed SMS, voicemail, and Microsoft Teams alerts.

The functionality of the Slim Pen 2 has been upgraded, and a firmware update will enable automated pairing with the Surface Duo 2. When linked via Bluetooth (no need to do this with a Surface PC), the Slim Pen 2 will be able to get a firmware update, and while updated to version 5.133.139, the Slim Pen 2 will also be able to automatically pair to the Surface Duo when inking on either display.

The software now includes improved charging, haptic feedback in the Camera app's settings, and support for the Device Firmware Configuration Interface (DFCI) to regulate device use. The camera app gets enhanced "usability," which is a bit of a misnomer, but it should either be snappier or perform better.

The original Surface Duo received an upgrade as well, although it was primarily for "device stability" and came with version 2022.418.56.
