Samsung recently announced the first-ever public beta programme for its Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic smartwatches, and the first beta build has been sent out to those who have signed up. Based on Wear OS 3.5, this is known as One UI Watch 4.5. (up from 3.2). Enrollment in the beta programme may be limited to South Korea and the United States.

You must use the Samsung Members app on a Samsung phone linked to the watch and be signed into the same Samsung account on both the phone and the watch to participate. You'll then see a banner inside the Members app advertising the beta programme if you're in an eligible zone. Then it's only a matter of registering and waiting to be admitted. You'll receive the first beta build as a software update for your watch after you've been accepted.

This update includes a dual-SIM user interface, better alerts with subtext field support, and improvements to the built-in keyboard, including voice input and handwriting support. There are also more alarm-setting choices.

The new included watch faces may be seen above. It's unknown how long this test programme will remain until Samsung rolls out a comparable upgrade to all of its smartphones. There may or may not be other beta builds before then; it's all a mystery at this time; what is obvious is that your Galaxy Watch4 or Watch4 Classic will receive some new and better capabilities in the near future.
