The M1 processor was introduced in November 2020, and its replacement, the M2, was presented during Apple's WWDC presentation earlier this week. While the new MacBook Air and 13" MacBook Pro were announced at the same event, analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong Intl Tech Research reports that Apple supplier TSMC will begin mass manufacturing of the M2 Pro processor later this year.
Instead of the 5nm process used for the vanilla M2 and M1 Pro, the M2 Pro will be manufactured using a 3nm technology. Unlike the M1 Pro, which has two less efficient efficiency cores, it is believed to contain four efficiency and eight performance cores.
Apple's augmented reality headset, which is expected to begin shipping in Q2 2023, will be announced after the Chinese New Year and mass production will begin in February 2023, according to Pu. Furthermore, the analyst confirmed claims that the iPhone 15 Pro will include a periscope lens for optical magnification, as well as Apple's ambitions to employ its own modem in the iPhone 2023.
