Apple has been working to lessen the reliance of its products' essential parts on external vendors. In keeping with that, the IT giant has been working on developing its own 5G modem for a while.

According to rumours, Apple's upcoming iPhone series devices may include a 5G modem that was created exclusively for the firm. That doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon right now.

According to the most recent claim from renowned Apple analyst Ming Chi-Kuo, Apple was unable to produce an internal 5G modem. Additionally, he states that Qualcomm will continue to be the only source of 5G modem chips for iPhones.

In contrast to earlier expectations, Qualcomm is now anticipated to provide all of the 5G modem chips for the iPhone models due out in 2023.

Apple will continue to develop its own 5G modem, but it will take more time to get there and get a satisfying result so that the business can use the processors on iPhones and other Apple products.

In order to shift away from Qualcomm, Apple purchased Intel's modem chip unit in 2019 and has been developing its own processors ever since. A protracted legal conflict between Apple and Qualcomm over licencing costs was also resolved.
