In China, the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra and Axon 40 Pro have been released. The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra and Axon 40 Pro are both powered by high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. The Axon 40 Ultra also features an under-display selfie camera from ZTE. These smartphones have a 5,000mAh battery and a curved AMOLED display. The Axon 40 lineup is set to supersede the Axon 30 series, which was introduced in April 2021.

The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra begins at CNY 4,998 (about Rs. 57,500) for the entry-level 8GB RAM + 256GB internal storage option. This ZTE phone is available in black and silver. The ZTE Axon 40 Pro, on the other hand, starts at CNY 2,998 (about Rs. 35,500) and comes in Crystal Mist Blue, Magic Night Black, and Star Orange color choices. Both of these cellphones are exclusive to China.

The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra features a 6.8-inch curved AMOLED display with full-HD+ (2,480x1,116 pixel) resolution, a 20:9 aspect ratio, and a refresh rate of 120Hz. It is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 3.1 storage onboard. This smartphone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and runs Android 12-based MyOS 12.
The ZTE Axon 40 Ultra's optics include a 64-megapixel IMX787 main sensor and an f/1.6 aperture. A 64-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 64-megapixel periscopic telephoto lens are also included. It has a 16-megapixel selfie camera built into the display on the front.
The DTS:X Ultra technology is used to improve the twin stereo speakers of the Axon 40 Ultra. It has a fingerprint sensor built into the display. A haptic feedback X-axis linear motor is also included. It is NFC and Bluetooth v5.2 compatible. The ZTE Axon 40 Pro has a 6.67-inch curved AMOLED display with a full-HD+ resolution (2,400x1,800 pixels) and a refresh rate of 144Hz. It has a Snapdragon 870 SoC, up to 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of internal storage. It also comes with a 5,000mAh battery. It is powered by Android 12 with the MyOS 12 overlay on top.
