Xiaomi is reportedly working on a new foldable smartphone that looks similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 3. It sports a clamshell folding design, making it essentially a modern-day flip phone.
The Chinese IT behemoth recently filed a patent with the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) that reveals its potential design. We can see the foldable smartphone in both its folded and unfolded states in the patent images. When not in use, the former demonstrates how compact it may be. The camera module, on the other hand, is a fascinating observation. In terms of appearance, Xiaomi's Flip Phone has a horizontal camera module that looks a lot like the Google Pixel 6.
There are three cutouts for image sensors on this module, although one of them could be for the LED flash. The smartphone also sports a speaker grille on the bottom, as well as a SIM card slot and a USB Type C charging connector, according to the design concepts. It also has the power button and volume rockers on the right side. Because there appears to be no cutout on the display itself, it's unclear how the smartphone will take selfies.
As a result, Xiaomi may deploy its Camera Under Panel (CUP) technology, which was first shown on the MIX Fold model, for the front-facing camera. This is the most up-to-date information we have on this model at this time. It's also unclear whether the corporation is working on such a model or simply trying to cover all areas. So stay tuned for further information on this subject.
