According to reports, WhatsApp is testing a companion mode feature with a handful of its beta customers, which allows them to add a secondary smartphone as a companion for their primary phone with WhatsApp on it. Users may now access the same instant messaging account from numerous smartphones or tablets thanks to this upgrade. Previously, WhatsApp introduced multi-device support for all users, allowing them to access their accounts on different devices at the same time to send and receive messages on the app, even if their phone does not have active Internet connectivity. However, the functionality presently only supports PCs as secondary devices and is useless for users who have several mobile phones or tablets. With the debut of buddy mode, this may soon alter.
According to WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing a Companion Mode that will allow users to add a secondary device to another registered WhatsApp account. The functionality was initially seen at the end of April, with the Android beta v2.22.10.13. However, we now have additional information regarding how the feature could operate.
A screenshot from the report shows a full-screen prompt warning for customers enrolling a device as a companion for their primary account. According to the screenshot, when you link the secondary device with another registered WhatsApp account, you will be locked out of the current WhatsApp account established on the secondary phone. Switching to WhatsApp Companion Mode would also delete any locally saved messages and data. According to the source, the option to utilize the same WhatsApp account on various phones is being tested on both iOS and Android versions of WhatsApp.
