The Vivo X80 Series was formally released in its first worldwide market outside of China today, in Malaysia, a tropical Southeast Asian country. The Vivo X80 series, as an industry-leading flagship from Vivo, brings several firsts to the global smartphone market, including the first flagship to sport a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor, the first flagship to sport its Vivo V1+ imaging processor, and the first flagship to sport a Sony IMX866 sensor.
Starting with the design, the Vivo X80 features a curved AMOLED screen at the front and a flat glass back panel with a rectangular ceramic camera island on top. The front display is a 6.78-inch FHD+ 120Hz E5 Samsung curved AMOLED that goes up to 1000 nits of brightness covering 100 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut. The front display is then enhanced by a centered hole punch that houses the 32MP selfie camera.
The basic Vivo X80 is powered by MediaTek's top-of-the-line Dimensity 9000 SoC, which has 12GB of onboard LPDDR5 RAM, 4GB of expandable RAM, and 256GB of lightning-fast UFS 3.1 storage. The gadget's huge 4,500mAh battery powers the device, which is combined with Vivo's class-leading 80W rapid charging. Vivo claims that their 80W rapid charging technology can charge from 0% to 50% in 11 minutes and from 0% to 100% in 34 minutes.
In terms of photography, in addition to the ISP on the MediaTek Dimensity 9000, the Vivo X80 includes Vivo's first in-house ISP, the Vivo V1+. Vivo boasts that the Vivo V1+ ISP, when combined with the MediaTek Dimensity 9000, enables the business to create newer and more powerful smartphone photography algorithms, ensuring that the greatest camera image comes out of your smartphone.
In terms of cameras, the Vivo X80 has a triple rear camera configuration. Sony's newest 50MP IMX866 sensor serves as the primary sensor. The 50MP sensor has an f/1.75 aperture, OIS stabilisation, and an RGBW color scheme. A 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 12MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom complete the arrangement. All lenses are also equipped with Zeiss' T* coating technology to decrease ghosting and stray light when using the smartphone, allowing you to capture more realistic colors and finer details.
The Vivo X80 Pro has the same curved AMOLED display at the front as the Vivo X80, a flat matte glass panel at the back, and is IP68 water and dust resistant. The display on the front has been increased to a 6.78-inch 2K 120Hz LTPO E5 Samsung AMOLED from the basic model, and a 32MP front camera is housed in the punch hole at the top center of the display. In addition, the display supports up to 1500 nits of brightness, 10-bit colors, and HDR10+ video.
In terms of cameras, the Vivo X80 Pro also comes with the new Vivo V1+ ISP and a more competent quad-camera configuration on the back. The primary sensor is a 50-megapixel ultra-sensitive Samsung GNV sensor with OIS stabilisation. As the first Android flagship to have the Samsung GNV sensor, Vivo says that the Vivo X80 Pro will be able to unveil the colors of the night, making it appear brighter and more natural.
The other three rear cameras are likewise flagship features, with the Sony IMX598 super wide-angle sensor, the Sony IMX663 telephoto sensor, and an 8MP periscope lens with 5x optical zoom and 60x hybrid zoom. All lenses feature Zeiss' T* coating technology, which aims to provide photos with true-to-life colors and finer details in low-light situations.
The Vivo X80 Pro features the same flagship linear X-axis motor and dual top-bottom firing stereo speakers as its X80 sibling and will ship with Android 12 and Funtouch OS 12.
