According to a report, smartphone shipments in Thailand dropped 10% year over year in the first quarter of 2022. Samsung's market dominance was maintained. OPPO managed to take second place, while Vivo remained in third place. The tight-fisted consumers, supply constraints, especially in the low-end price segments, and rising inflation, which is increasing the cost of ownership of phones across various price segments, are thought to be key reasons for the drop.

Smartphone shipments in Thailand fell 10% in the first quarter of 2022, according to a report by Counterpoint Research.

Samsung maintained its market leadership and even increased its market share slightly. According to Counterpoint, the company holds 18.7% of the total market share. With the help of its well-planned distribution, Samsung was able to maintain its lead.

Oppo remained in second place after Samsung, with 17.4 percent of the market share. In the first quarter, however, the company's revenue fell by 4.2 percent year over year.

With a 14.8 percent market share in Thailand, Vivo came in third in terms of smartphone shipments. Realme, one of BBK Electronics' newest brands, came in fourth place with an 11.1 percent market share, followed by Xiaomi (10.4 percent market share).

"New models introduced in Q1 2022 boosted volumes in Thailand, but demand in the low-to-mid-level segments slowed. Tourism was expected to pick up in Q1, but the government was only able to loosen international travel restrictions in Q2, according to Glen Cardoza, Senior Analyst at Counterpoint. "While industry initiatives continue, consumers are feeling the pinch of rising inflation, and many are clutching their wallets," Cardoza added.

In Thailand, the percentage of 5G smartphone shipments reached 48 percent in Q1 2022, and this figure is expected to rise in the coming months. According to the report, the development of 5G industrial test cases and applications is being pushed in order to boost domestic efficiencies and export levels
