According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple plans to deliver the second-generation AirPods Pro this autumn, with a redesigned design, greater audio quality, and maybe some health integration.

Gurman says in his most recent Power On newsletter:

In the autumn, look for updated AirPods Pro. The latest model has been on the market since the autumn of 2019, therefore some early users' batteries are likely to be failing. Look for an AirPods Max makeover with new colors (and, perhaps, a price drop—$550 for those headphones is insane).

The AirPods Pro have not been updated since their first release in 2019, and many reports have stated that they may be released this year. Gurman's prediction of an autumn debut is consistent with recent information revealed by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who predicted a launch in the second part of the year. The new AirPods Pro may include a more compact design that eliminates the stem, as well as a new charging case and lossless audio capabilities through a new protocol.

Apple is not anticipated to work on a second-generation edition of the over-ear headphones, which debuted in December 2020. Apple is rumored to be working on additional color possibilities instead. Today, Gurman stated that the additional hues are still being developed but did not provide a timetable for their release.
