  • Motorola is expected to be the first to use Samsung's 200-megapixel camera.
  • The pixel size of the Samsung ISOCELL HP1 sensor is 0.64 micron.
  • Xiaomi is expected to release its first phone with a 200-megapixel camera in 2022.
In September of last year, Samsung debuted its 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP1 sensor. According to the newest reports, an enhanced 200-megapixel sensor dubbed as ISOCELL HP3 is nearing completion and will debut in the company's forthcoming flagship smartphone. The new sensor might be included in the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, which is scheduled to successor the Galaxy S22 lineup. The new sensor is reported to be an enhanced version of the ISOCELL HP1, with a maximum image resolution of 200 megapixels delivered using a new pixel-binning technique.

According to the South Korean website ETNews, Samsung is nearing completion on an improved version of the 200-megapixel sensor known as ISOCELL HP3. Samsung Electronics is in charge of 30% of the manufacturing, while the Electro-Mechanics division is in charge of the remaining 70%. The new 200-megapixel camera is projected to be included in the next Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra in 2023.

The Samsung ISOCELL HP3 sensor's specifications are still unknown. The sensor, on the other hand, will be 200-megapixels, making it one of the biggest sensors put in any device. Currently, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy S20, and Galaxy S21 models all include high-resolution rear camera modules with 108-megapixel sensors.

The ISOCELL HP3 from Samsung is projected to be comparable to its predecessor, the ISOCELL HP1. The latter has 0.64-micron pixels and is integrated with the unique Chameleon Cell technology, which employs a two-by-two, four-by-four, or complete pixel layout — depending on the surroundings — to take photos with resolutions ranging from 12.5 to 200 megapixels. The Samsung ISOCELL HP1 is said to be capable of capturing 8K footage at 30 frames per second (fps) with little field of vision degradation.

If the report is correct, the Samsung Galaxy S23 will not be the first smartphone to include a 200-megapixel camera. The forthcoming Motorola Frontier is said to use a 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP1 sensor. Xiaomi is also expected to release its first phone with a 200-megapixel camera in the second half of 2022.
