Earlier in March, the Gizmochina team discovered a new smartphone, the Maimang 11 5G, in the Chinese TENAA database, indicating that the gadget might be on the market shortly. China Telecom, the new parent company of the Maimang brand, verified and announced today that the Maimang 11 5G smartphone would be launched in China on May 10th at 7:08 pm Beijing Time (UTC +8).

China Telecom just confirmed that the Maimang 11 5G will have a massive 6000 mAh battery and 5G connectivity in the launch event announcement banner. However, some of the Maimang 11 5G's specifications and design have been disclosed in the TENAA database, and here's what we know.

The Maimang 11 5G will include a 2.2GHz MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor with 5G connection and would run Android 11.

The smartphone will include a 6.745-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1600720, a 6000mAh battery, an 8MP front camera, and dual cameras with 48MP+2MP. The item measures 168.377.68.98mm in length and weighs 199g. It keeps the 3.5mm headphone port and features a fingerprint scanner on the side.

The Maimang 11 5G will be available with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and storage options of 128GB or 256GB. The gadget is available in three colors: black, white, and blue.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Maimang brand, it was created in 2013 in China as a sub-brand under Huawei in conjunction with China Telecom and Tencent, with its first commercial device being the Huawei Maimang A199 with 3G connection. With its modern and young aesthetics, the sub-brand acquired appeal among China's youth, and certain Maimang handsets were periodically renamed by Huawei to be marketed abroad to a broader audience.

For example, you may be familiar with the Huawei Maimang 6, which was rebranded worldwide as the Huawei Mate 10 Lite, Huawei Nova 2i, or Honor 9i depending on where you lived. However, due to US sanctions on Huawei, the Maimang had to be sold off in order to maintain operations because it required outside electronics suppliers to make its devices. As a result, the brand was completely sold off by Huawei to China Telecom last year, and the Maimang brand has now eliminated the Huawei logo on its handsets and is totally independent of its previous parent firm, Huawei.
