According to an Apple software engineer, iOS 15.5 will include the reintroduction of a popular Apple Music API used by third-party music players that allowed users to change the playback speeds of songs within the app.

Apple removed an API used by third-party Apple Music players that allowed users to change the playback speed of songs with iOS 15.4. Although the Apple Music app does not allow users to change playback speed, popular App Store apps such as Perfect Tempo do. Apple removed the API for an unknown reason with iOS 15.4, but with the upcoming release of iOS 15.5, which is currently in testing, Apple is restoring the functionality.

Joe Kun, an Apple software engineer on the Apple Music team, sent the following update to disgruntled developers earlier this week (via iGeneration):

Apple released the fourth beta of iOS and iPadOS 15.5 to developers this week. iOS 15.5 will include only minor changes and features, as well as performance and security improvements. All of the changes coming with iOS and iPadOS 15.5 can be found here.
