At the Computex 2022 presentation on May 23rd, AMD introduced its Ryzen 7000 series processors based on the Zen 5 architecture. The business unveiled its new AMD Socket AM5 platform, which will house the company's newest processors. At the presentation, AMD also unveiled Mendocino, a new series of APU-powered laptops. The most recent AMD Ryzen 7000 processors can clock in at 5.5GHz. Let's have a look at what AMD announced during the Computex 2022 keynote.
Ryzen 7000 CPUs from AMD
The AMD Ryzen 7000 processors, which were first revealed at CES 2022, will be available in the fall of 2022, between September and December. The latest AMD Ryzen 7000 chipsets feature the new Zen 4 architecture and are built using a 5nm technology. It will have a 1MB L2 cache per core rather than the current 512KB.
According to AMD, the new CPUs boost single-thread performance by more than 15%. The business exhibited a pre-production 16-core processor that was about 30% quicker than the Intel Core i9-12900K in a multi-threaded Blender task.
The major point here is that AMD promises a clock speed of over 5GHz on the Ryzen 7000 while gaming. While playing Ghostwire: Tokyo, the team demonstrated an undisclosed 16-core Ryzen 7000 processor running at 5.5GHz max speed.
In addition to the 5nm Zen 4 architecture, AMD's latest Ryzen 7 processors feature a new I/O chip built on a 6m process. This has AMD RDNA 2-based graphics, which will be standard on all Ryzen 7000 processors. DDR5 RAM and PCIe 5.0 slots are also supported by the new I/O chip.
AMD AM5 Socket
AMD also unveiled its AMD Socket AM5 platform, which will be used to house the new Ryzen 7000 processors. It has LGA 1718 pins rather than PGA, and it can accommodate gears with a TDP of up to 170W. For anyone concerned about the AM4 cooler's compatibility with AM5, the answer is yes, the AM4 cooler is compatible with AM5.
AMD also unveiled the AMD X670 Extreme, X670, and B650 AM5 motherboards. For storage, the B650 motherboard only has PCIe 5.0 slots. The X670, on the other hand, has one PCIe 5.0 slot for storage and optional PCIe graphics capabilities. The X670 Extreme is the most powerful overclocking processor, with two PCIe 5.0 slots for graphics and one for storage. The motherboards will be available from a variety of manufacturers, including ASUS, ASRock, Gigabyte, and MSI.
AMD also stated that PCI 5.0-based SSDs will be available around the same time as the boards, allowing users to take full use of the additional bandwidth for up to 60% quicker read speeds than 4.0 drivers.
Laptops AMD Mendocino
AMD also unveiled Mendocino, a new series of APU-powered laptops. The laptops will be available in the fourth quarter of 2022. Built on a 6nm technology, these APUs have AMD's Zen 2 cores with integrated RDNA 2 graphics and enable LPDDR5 RAM. The chips are designed for laptops that cost between $400 and $700. (Approx. Rs 31,000 to Rs 54,500).
AMD also announced AMD SmartAccess Storage, which is based on Microsoft's DirectStorage and leverages AMD Smart Access Memory and other AMD technologies to speed up game loading and texture streaming.
