According to a senior corporate executive, Bharti Airtel plans to open a new technology centre in Pune to support digital services in the Western area, and would hire roughly 500 digital engineering professionals by the end of the current fiscal year.
This would be Airtel's fourth digital technology hub in India and the first in the Western area, bolstering the firm's goal to transition to a digital services company, particularly as 5G services approach.
Bharti Airtel's chief information officer, Pradipt Kapoor, confirmed the intentions, telling PTI that the company is aggressively expanding its in-house digital talent pool to assist its transformation into a digital carrier.
"As an established IT and tech centre, Pune is a logical choice for Airtel to tap into the talent pool and foster cross-industry collaboration," added Kapoor.

Airtel is looking for people with a variety of skills and backgrounds, including Big Data, Machine Learning, Dev Ops, Tech ops, and so on.
Similar digital technology clusters already exist in Gurgaon, Bengaluru (Airtel X-Labs), and Noida. Nearly 3,000 individuals work in these facilities.
According to a business executive, Airtel is hiring from engineering colleges including as IITs, NITS, and IIITs for its digital technology centres, in addition to top global talent from Silicon Valley and domestic start-ups.
Airtel claims to have invested more than $46 billion (approximately Rs. 3,57,510 crore) on digital infrastructure over the previous two decades, which it claims supports 40% of India's economic and digital activities.
The Airtel Thanks app, Wynk Music app, and the Airtel Xstream entertainment platform all have around 180 million monthly active users.
