HIGHLIGHTS
- On all platforms, WhatsApp has a vanishing messages function.
- Messages, photos, and videos are removed automatically in these conversations.
- WhatsApp users may still preserve photographs from fading chats manually.
When vanishing messages are enabled in a chat, WhatsApp is rolling out a feature that prevents media from being automatically stored to the smartphone's gallery or Camera Roll. Users of the encrypted messaging service will be able to manually preserve material sent in vanishing chats. The business has also been seen working on new image editing features in the newest beta version of its iOS app, including the inclusion of two new pencil tools to annotate or markup photographs before transmitting them on WhatsApp.
According to WhatsApp features tracker WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned messaging service has began rolling out a change to the way media is preserved in disappearing conversations. Users of the most recent versions of WhatsApp for Android and iOS will now receive a notification informing them that the "media visibility" option for chats with vanishing messages has been disabled. In February, it was discovered that the feature was in the works.
WhatsApp's vanishing messages function is intended to wipe messages from both the sender's and recipient's cellphones after a certain time period, and users may select one of three choices for disappearing chats: 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days. Messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and other attachments sent in vanishing conversations are immediately erased, and the most recent version removes the function that saves all material sent in disappearing chats.
When users touch the media visibility setting in fading conversations, WhatsApp now displays a popup notice informing them that the texts in the chat are about to disappear. "Media is not automatically saved to your phone's gallery for privacy reasons." "Turn off fading messages to save material from this discussion," the notice adds. On the newest versions of WhatsApp for Android and iOS, Gadgets 360 was able to confirm that the functionality was disabled in chats when vanishing messages were enabled.
According to the feature tracker, iOS users will still be able to choose individual photographs and save them to their Camera Roll, while Android users on some versions of WhatsApp will also be able to manually store media.
Meanwhile, according to the feature tracker, the current WhatsApp for iOS beta version has begun testing a revised media editor for certain users; this is also likely to emerge in a future WhatsApp for Android beta update. The update includes two new pencil sketching tools, which can be found at the bottom of the screen. A blur tool, located alongside the new sketching tools at the bottom of the media editor, has also been introduced. These modifications are now accessible only to select users on the newest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS, but they may be rolled out to all users at a later point.
