In the second half of 2022, Xiaomi plans to deliver a mid-year upgrade for its Chinese smartphones that are presently running MIUI 13. The upgrade, dubbed the H2 2022 MIUI 13 Mid-Year update, is likely to include numerous software features seen in previous Xiaomi releases such as the Xiaomi 12 range and the Redmi K50 series, as well as stability enhancements.

Xiaomi, on the other hand, has announced on its MIUI Forum in China that it would be removing several devices from its MIUI 13 (China Version) Open Beta programme beginning July 18th, 2022, and some of these devices include Xiaomi flagships equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor.

The following devices have been removed from the previously stated list:

  • Xiaomi CC9 Pro
  • Xiaomi Mi 10
  • Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro
  • Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth Edition
  • Redmi K30
  • Redmi K30 5G
  • Redmi K30i 5G
  • Redmi K30 Pro 5G

Normally, devices that are removed from the MIUI Beta Program will not get any further Android OS updates (MIUI 14 based on Android 13). The smartphones will, however, be eligible for another MIUI upgrade (i.e. MIUI 14 based on Android 12) as well as another year of security updates from Xiaomi.

The smartphones mentioned above were released in early 2020 with MIUI 11 based on Android 10, and they have all recently been upgraded to MIUI 13 based on Android 12.

Xiaomi's track record shows that delivering 2 years of Android OS upgrades and 3 years of security updates to its flagships is rather normal. However, since the debut of the Xiaomi 11T series, the company has vowed to give three years of Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates to its flagships released after the Xiaomi 11T series, which include the Xiaomi 12 series and the Redmi K50 series.
