HIGHLIGHTS
- Google Docs is getting emoji reactions.
- Google is now rolling out domains for quick deployment.
- Emojis are a more informal alternative to remarks.
Emoji, the most popular way to express ourselves on social media, has made its way to Google Workspace, allowing users to reply to any item on Google Docs by just using a symbol rather of making a comment or remark on it.
Google said in a Google Workspace update that the function now supports all emojis in the most recent edition. Gender-neutral solutions are also available.
When you highlight text, the emoji reaction tool will display as a third option alongside 'Add Comment' and 'Suggest Edits.' These answers, according to Google, are a less formal alternative to comments.
"Giving and receiving feedback is an important part of the collaborative workflow in Google Docs. The new emoji reactions feature allows you to express your thoughts on document content in a less formal way than comments "Google announced the news on its announcement blog.
Emoji reactions are coming to Google Docs at a time when the service is transitioning from being a word processor to more of a remote working collaboration tool.
Google is presently rolling out the tool for quick release domains, but it will be available to most Google Docs users after April 20.
The latest version, which includes emoji, will be available to Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus users, but not to Enterprise Essentials.
