The MatePad Paper was initially introduced by Huawei during the Mobile World Congress 2022. The e-ink tablet was later released in China and is now available for purchase. The MatePad Paper was only available in one color: black. That is no longer the case, as the Chinese tech giant has released a white-colored variant of the MatePad Paper. The white variant, as compared to the black model, delivers a smooth velvet-like warmth and mellow sensation that is softer and brighter. The new model is currently available for pre-order on Jingdong (JD.com) at the reduced price of 2899 yuan ($455).

To refresh your memory, the Huawei MatePad Paper has a 10.3-inch grayscale screen with a resolution of 1872 × 1404 pixels and an aspect ratio of 227 PPI. The tablet has minimal blue light, no flicker, a broad viewing angle, and sunlight-readable paper-like features, which can make reading more comfortable. It is also the first TÜV Rheinland paper-like paper in the world. Displays verified ink flats.

The product includes features like split-screen notes, handwriting-to-text, and voice-to-text, and it significantly improves the complicated and sluggish text input on ink displays, as well as the difficulties of page flipping.

Simultaneously, Huawei MatePad Paper comes with a second-generation M-Pencil pen that enables 4096 pressure sensitivity and seamless follow-up. The ideal latency is only 26ms, and the writing is really smooth.

As an e-book reader, the device has reduced bezels on the top, bottom, and right sides, while the left edge is somewhat broader to simulate the appearance of an open book. Because of the smaller bezels, the smartphone has an 86.3 percent screen-to-body ratio.

In terms of processing capability, the MatePad Paper is equipped with a Hexa-core CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. The slate supports WiFi 6+ and Bluetooth 5.2.

A 3625mAh battery powers the device and is said to provide up to 28 days of standby time. It also has 22.5W rapid charging, which Huawei says may provide up to 6 days of reading time with only a 1.5-hour charge. It is capable of reverse charging. The smartphone also has fingerprint recognition since the power button also functions as a sensor.

In Europe, the tablet costs €499, while in China, the 4GB+64GB WiFi-only edition costs 2999 yuan ($472).
