- For its 2022 foldables, Samsung is said to stay with side-mounted fingerprint scanners.
- The business allegedly considered including an in-display fingerprint sensor in its forthcoming foldables.
Samsung has historically relied on side-mounted fingerprint scanners for its foldable phones, and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 are no exception. According to recent reports from Korea, the 2022 foldables will remain in this area as well.
According to BusinessKorea, Samsung contemplated including an in-display fingerprint sensor in the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, the manufacturer has chose not to employ this technology on the new models, instead opting for side-mounted fingerprint scanners.
However, they would not have been the first foldables with in-display fingerprint sensors, since the forthcoming Vivo X Fold is said to include in-display scanners on both the smartphone and the foldable screen.
Nonetheless, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner on a foldable phone makes a lot of sense. This feature enables users to simply unlock their phone in both closed and open modes, with only one fingerprint scanner required in the first place.
We're still a long way from the conventional Q3 debut timeframe for Samsung's foldables. However, we're sure to see more Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 leaks before then.
