An expert predicts that Apple's rumored dual-port USB-C wall charger would shortly begin mass production, implying that it will be available soon.
On Friday, an unannounced Apple 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter was mentioned in a support article that was temporarily uploaded and then withdrawn from Apple's website. While the leak did not specify a release date, it appears like it might be a few months before it sees the light of day.
In a Saturday tweet, TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo picked up on the leak, claiming that components for the item "are nearing mass production." While an item entering production is a positive sign for a product, there is no definitive timeframe for its release, but it could easily surface within a few months.
Kuo is optimistic about the adapter's prospects, estimating that shipments in 2022 would be in the 2 million to 3 million range.
Apple has been said to be working on GaN chargers for some time, with a release date of 2022 being anticipated. GaN (Gallium Nitride) power adapters are often smaller and more power-efficient than silicon-based counterparts; however, it is uncertain whether the leaked charger is a GaN type.
Kuo predicted in March that Apple's initial GaN-based charger will be "around 30W," which he reaffirmed in the tweet.
