According to details discovered by a developer in the firmware of the recently launched Apple Studio Display, Apple is working on a new Mac mini model. The first Apple Silicon-powered Mac mini was released in 2020, and the rumored successor to the M1 Mac mini is expected to include the M1 Pro and M1 Max processors — or a new processor dubbed the M2 chip. Apple, which is set to conduct its annual WWDC conference in June, has yet to formally divulge any specifics about new Mac model launches or specs.
Developer Steve Troughton-Smith (@stroughtonsmith) discovered references to a new Mac mini model in the software that arrives with the new 27-inch Apple Studio Display, which debuted at Apple's Spring Launch event in March. According to the developer, the Apple Studio Display firmware contains references to a "Macmini10,1," which presumably alludes to a new model or generation.
While the developer first indicated that the rumored successor to the M1 Mac mini might be powered by a new M2 chip, he then tweeted that the following generation could be powered by M1 Pro or M1 Max CPUs, which are present on the company's 2021 MacBook Pro models. As previously said, Apple has yet to disclose any intentions to produce a new Mac mini model, or what characteristics it may have.
Apple has set June 6 as the date for its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). While it is expected to make software announcements, like as iOS 16 (codenamed Sydney), watchOS 9 (Kincaid), macOS 13 (Rome), and tvOS 16 (Paris), it is worth mentioning that the business also introduced its first generation of Apple Silicon.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman recently claimed in his Power On newsletter that Apple may unveil two new Mac models at the forthcoming WWDC event. According to Gurman, Apple is working on two new Mac models that might ship "around the middle of the year or early in the second half." Apple is also working on an upgraded Mac mini, a 24-inch Mac, and a new low-end MacBook Pro model.
