Only a week after releasing iOS 15.4.1, Apple has ceased signing iOS 15.4. By no longer signing iOS 15.4, Apple has made it impossible for consumers to downgrade their iPhone models to the previous iOS version and instead urges them to update to iOS 15.4.1. To avoid occurrences of jailbreaking devices, Apple frequently ceases signing older versions of its iOS software. Once an iOS version is unsigned, customers cannot officially downgrade or update their devices to that version.
Last month, iOS 15.4 was launched alongside iPadOS 15.4, macOS Monterey 12.3, and watchOS 8.5. It debuted the long-awaited ability to unlock an iPhone with Face ID while wearing a mask. However, the upgrade triggered battery draining issues for certain iPhone users, which Apple addressed.
Apple also included a remedy for a zero-day vulnerability found in the media framework AppleAVD in iOS 15.4.1. According to the corporation, it was aware that the security issue had been aggressively exploited by cybercriminals. This implies that consumers have a compelling incentive to update to iOS 15.4.1.
Apple has ceased signing tvOS 15.4 and HomePod Software Version 15.4 with iOS 15.4, according to MacRumors. The business also no longer signs iPadOS 15.4.
Apple only signs a few iOS versions at a time in order to prevent jailbreaks and prevent consumers from downgrading to earlier editions. The change also encourages customers to retain the most recent operating system on their iPhone, which includes the most recent security updates, because they cannot revert to an older version. It reduces security concerns and third-party threats.
Some users, however, do not find the practice of ceasing to sign older software versions advantageous since it prevents them from returning to an existing experience if they are dissatisfied with the features offered in the latest version.
Apple announced the first developer beta of iOS 15.5 earlier this week. It mentioned enabling applications with external purchases, the Apple Classical app, and a redesigned Wallet app.
