According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the business is testing a smartphone with a 9-inch folding display, but the company's long-rumored foldable iPhone is unlikely to appear until 2025 or later.

Kuo stated on Twitter that Apple is "actively testing" a gadget with a 9-inch foldable OLED display with a PPI between the iPhone and the iPad. This gadget is ostensibly being used to examine and validate the core technologies involved in Apple's foldable, and it may or may not include the specifications of any eventual retail version.

Kuo predicts that Apple's foldable product development would begin with medium-sized smartphones, then go on to larger-display devices, and lastly to compact devices like the iPhone.

Kuo also amended his forecast from last year that Apple will release its foldable iPhone as soon as 2024, adding that it is now evident that this estimate should be revised to 2025 at the earliest. He went on to say that Apple's first foldable gadget may be a combination iPhone and iPad, or simply a folding iPad.

Kuo's remarks follow a story from The Elec that said Apple is working with LG to produce a foldable OLED display panel with ultra-thin cover glass for future Apple tablets and laptops. Display expert Ross Young sparked speculations about Apple working on huge foldable devices in February, claiming that the firm is looking into all-screen folding laptops with screens about 20 inches in size.
