According to a shady source, LG Display is working with Apple on the creation of a foldable iPad and MacBook OLED screen made of ultra-thin glass.
A fresh industry report cites a cooperative initiative between Apple and LG Display, which might be supporting previous reports of a foldable iPad/Mac combination.
According to The Elec, LG Display is already collaborating with Hewlett Packard to produce 17-inch foldable laptop OLED panels. It is said to be a follow-up to a comparable foldable panel created for Lenovo in 2020.
The Elec quickly adds that the business is now working with Apple on a comparable screen for what the magazine just refers to as tablets and laptops. It makes no direct mention of iPads or MacBooks, nor does it specify which versions of those devices are in the works.
There is also little information on the display other than the fact that it would be made of ultra-thin glass rather than the more common polyimide high-performance plastic.
Although short, the news may be consistent with analyst Ross Young's recent assertion that Apple is working on a foldable 20-inch notebook.
Young estimates that such a gadget might be developed between 2025 and 2027. Young's Display Supply Chain Consultants business has identified 2025 as the earliest possible date for an iPhone Fold.
The Elec has a decent reputation for intelligence obtained from Apple's supplier chain. It has a considerably inferior track record when it comes to details or projections regarding future products.
