Apple has restarted the beta cycle by releasing the first release of macOS Monterey 12.4 available for developer testing.
The most recent builds are available for download via the Apple Developer Center for Developer Beta programme participants, as well as via an over-the-air upgrade for devices already utilised for beta software. Public beta versions of developer builds are often released within a few days after their counterparts and may be obtained through the Apple Beta Software Program website.
The new wave follows the March 14 release of macOS 12.3. In that update, Apple introduced support for Universal Control as well as new emoji, among other minor changes.
Using a single mouse and keyboard connection, a primary Mac may operate a nearby iPad or another Mac. The other devices function as an external display, but instead of expanding the original Mac desktop, they keep their operating system, applications, and functionality. It is unknown what user-facing enhancements Apple has introduced in macOS 12.4. There's also the potential that it's a bug patch and performance upgrade.
The new build number for macOS 12.4 is 21F5048e, which is an increase from 21E258.
We highly advise customers not to install betas on "mission-critical" or primary devices, as there is a remote potential of data loss or other concerns. Instead, testers should install betas on secondary or non-essential devices, and double-check that they work properly.
