  • Face ID issues on the iPhone X can finally be resolved.
  • Apple is rumoured to have extended its Face ID repair programme. Face ID requires a number of components to function properly.
According to a rumour, iPhone X customers may now get their Face ID system fixed without having to replace the complete handset. Apple is claimed to have expanded its repair programme for the TrueDepth camera system, which it purportedly debuted earlier this year to the iPhone X, in order to allow early Face ID adopters to get the technology rectified. Because it combines a flood illuminator, dot projector, front camera, and an infrared (IR) camera, the system that allows the Face ID function is tough to fix. To enable face recognition on the iPhone, all of these components must function in unison.

According to an internal letter obtained by MacRumors, Apple has expanded its Face ID repair programme to include the iPhone X. According to the publication, the programme was first identified in the works for the iPhone XS, iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13 devices, but it did not include the iPhone X. It apparently went into effect last month for all newest iPhone handsets.

Apple Stores and authorised repair centres are claimed to have supplied the TrueDepth camera system components that technicians may utilise to repair Face ID on iPhones without totally replacing them.

Apple appears to be expanding the initiative to encompass all iPhone models with Face ID functionality in order to fix its TrueDepth camera system.

Gadgets 360 has reached out to Apple for confirmation of the rumoured features and will update this post as soon as the company answers.

It is unclear whether iPad Pro customers will be able to get their Face ID technology corrected in the same way.

Repairing the system to enable Face ID is a difficult undertaking since little components must work together to provide precise facial recognition. The difficulty in fixing is apparently why Apple opted to provide a full replacement rather than the opportunity to repair the component.

However, going for a full replacement is an expensive procedure because the majority of iPhone X owners now do not have a warranty. They may have to spend up to $549 (about Rs. 41,700) to have their iPhone replaced at an Apple Authorised Service Provider.

Users with a faulty Face ID system are also advised not to seek third-party repair because Apple claims that improper repair, modification, or use of non-genuine components in laser systems may prevent the safety mechanisms from functioning properly, resulting in hazardous exposure and injury to the eyes or skin.

Apple unveiled its self-service repair programme in the United States last year in response to complaints about the limited repairability of its gadgets. However, the firm did not say if it would allow fixing of components such as those used to provide Face ID functionality on its iPhone and iPad devices at the time.
