According to an internal document acquired by MacRumors, Apple will add two MacBook Air models and one MacBook Pro model to its defunct goods list on April 30. All three laptops have been on Apple's "vintage" list since 2020 and will be transferred to the "obsolete" list at the end of the month. Once seven years have elapsed since the firm last distributed the goods for sale, Apple deems the product outdated. Apple no longer provides hardware support for defunct devices, however the MacBook models listed above may be eligible for battery-only repairs in some regions for a short period, according to the letter.

The models set to become obsolete:

  • MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2014)
  • MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2014)
Following its October 2016 presentation, where it launched the first MacBook Pro with a Touch Bar, Apple discontinued the 11-inch MacBook Air. Apple continues to offer the 13-inch MacBook Air, which was last upgraded in November 2020 with the M1 processor, while display industry specialist Ross Young has stated that a bigger 15-inch MacBook Air will be available in 2023.
