Samsung is one of just a few smartphone manufacturers that also creates its own CPUs or chips. The Exynos semiconductors from the South Korean company haven’t been able to measure up to the offers from Apple and Qualcomm.

Despite the fact that Samsung manufactures semiconductors, the business does not have an exclusive processor portfolio for its own handsets. But, if the newest reports are to be believed, that is likely to change very soon.

According to the most recent reports, Samsung intends to develop chipsets solely for its own smartphones. This is a significant step forward for the South Korean conglomerate, as reports indicate that the System LSI division, which manufactures chips, and the Mobile eXperience (MX) division, which manufactures mobile phones, do not have a close relationship.

The article says that TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung MX Business announced during a town hall meeting that Samsung will henceforth build CPUs particularly for the Galaxy series of smartphones. It is also said that Samsung has internally recognised that its staff "have insufficient AP capabilities," which is due to a shortage of personnel as well as a lack of talent.

Samsung has been attempting to differentiate its Exynos CPUs from the competition by putting them on par with Apple's and Qualcomm's premium offerings. In keeping with this, the business transitioned from its Mongoose cores to ARM's architecture, and the recently announced Exynos 2200 has a GPU developed in partnership with AMD.

It is said that for Samsung's System LSI business, the MX unit is exactly like any other client that buys chips. Samsung's mobile processors are also used in phones from other manufacturers, including Vivo.
