HIGHLIGHTS
- The Android 13 schedule is now available.
- With at least two developer previews and four betas, the timeline appears to be shorter than last year's.
- If everything goes according to plan, the stable release might be released in August 2022.
Google has released two developer previews for Android 13 so far, the second of which will be released on March 17. These are very early operating system versions. Although anyone can download and install the most recent version of DP, the software will be bug-ridden and unstable, therefore it's primarily for developers (hence the name).
Nonetheless, these early DPs provide us a glimpse of what the next version of Android will look like. As a result, it may pique your interest in the rest of the Android 13 schedule and when the stable version will be released.
We've collated all of the information we've gathered so far on the Android 13 release timetable below.
The ad hoc Android 13 schedule you see above was provided by Google. Overall, this is a far shorter timeframe than the one we saw with Android 12 last year. If everything goes according to plan, the first beta should be available in April. Then, between April and July, at least three further beta launches are expected. Google has stated that platform stability will be achieved by June 2022.
If there are no major setbacks, Android 13 should be ready for prime time in August 2022.
For the sake of reference, the stable release of Android 12 occurred on October 19, 2021. The upgrade from Android 11 to Android 12 was, nonetheless, significant. Given that the transition from Android 12 to Android 13 isn't expected to be nearly as severe, it's feasible that Google may move things along much more quickly this year.
Meanwhile, these are the major Android 13 schedule milestones that we've observed thus far:
- Android 13 DP 1 is released on February 10, 2022.
- Android 13 DP 2 is released on March 17, 2022.
