This week, WhatsApp has provided a slew of updates, including information on new features that have been given to users, as well as information about features that are in the works and bug fixes:
- On iOS, WhatsApp is introducing a new Contact Info and Group Info UI. In actuality, the new Contact Info interface was previously accessible to select iOS users, but WhatsApp has now made the functionality available to everyone, along with the revamp of Group Info.
- WhatsApp has launched a new beta version for iOS users, bringing formal support for iOS 15 to the platform. More functionality for iOS 15 will be available in a future version.
- WhatsApp has reintroduced the ability to pause and restart voice recordings, which was previously removed in an upgrade. Furthermore, WhatsApp has disabled the preview while exchanging photos and videos as documents. It will most likely become available again in the future.
- We stated in the post about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.8.3 update that WhatsApp is going to include the option to change the app language directly within WhatsApp Settings. A comparable tool is currently available in some countries, such as India, but WhatsApp plans to make it available globally in a future version. WhatsApp has also given message responses to select beta testers in the same update! Even if WhatsApp is currently banning message responses, this is undoubtedly the best news of the week:
- WhatsApp has published an update for Android that resolves an issue with message duplication and unexpected crashes that was introduced by accident in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.8.4.
- On WhatsApp beta for Android, WhatsApp is working on a feature that would provide indicators for end-to-end encryption at the bottom of your call history.
- WhatsApp has released a new version for WhatsApp beta for Windows on the Microsoft Store, which adds support for a sticker tab. In the future, WhatsApp plans to implement a new feature that would sync your sticker packs, so that any sticker saved on your phone will also be available on the Desktop app.
- WhatsApp has also launched the WhatsApp Desktop beta 2.2211.3 update, which addresses the issue of missing profile photographs and group icons.
