WhatsApp's long-awaited multi-device capability for Android and iOS users is officially available. The functionality had previously been offered to users through WhatsApp's opt-in beta testing programme, but according to WABetainfo, the upgrade will now be available to iOS users this month, followed by an Android release next month.
For those who are unaware, this function eliminates the need for an internet connection on your smartphone in order for the talking platform to be utilised on various devices. Previously, customers needed a steady internet connection on their cellphones in order to utilise the messaging service on any other device, such as a desktop PC or a laptop. In other words, it needed to be linked to your smartphone in order for the talks to be synchronised.
The function allows up to four linked devices and one phone to be active at the same time, and it will disconnect the linked devices if the phone is dormant for 14 days. Viewing live location on linked smartphones is not available, according to WhatsApp. Creating and viewing broadcast lists, as well as sending messages with link previews, are not possible on secondary devices. Furthermore, iPhone users are unable to delete or clean a communication on connected devices.
Similarly, WhatsApp is rolling out the Message response function to certain Android users via the app's beta channel. The functionality will function in the same manner as it does on most other platforms. Users will be able to long-press on a message to bring up an extra floating menu above the message in question, after which they will be able to reply to the message using one of the several emoji-based reactions available. In the beta build, there are now six emotions to pick from: thumbs up, love, laughing, surprise, tears, and thankfulness.
