  • WhatsApp's new Communities feature will take the place of the camera tab.
  • Administrators may be able to create lists of groups using the Communities function.
  • Waveforms for audio recordings are now supported in the most recent beta version.
According to a feature tracker, WhatsApp is working on a new tab devoted to its planned Communities feature that would show all the Communities in which a user is a member. The messaging service is developing a feature that would allow group administrators to add certain groups to a 'Community,' where they will be featured together. Meanwhile, WhatsApp has begun testing the ability to pause and restart voice recordings on Android for beta testers.

According to feature tracker WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned messaging service is now working on a new tab for its Communities feature, which is in the works. According to a screenshot of the feature activated by the feature tracker, the new tab replaces the camera tab at the top of the app in the newest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.6.9. Users on the most recent beta version will not be able to see the new Community page for the time being because it is currently in development.

The WhatsApp Community tab is thought to be a shortcut for WhatsApp's under-development 'Community Home' feature. Communities are reported to be end-to-end, private places that allow group administrators to better govern their groups, although WhatsApp has yet to formally divulge any details on the feature.

Meanwhile, according to the feature tracker, WhatsApp is now allowing Android beta users to pause and restart voice recordings in the current beta version. Android users who have joined up for the messaging app's beta version may update to version 2.22.6.9 to check out the new functionality. According to the feature tracker, the current version also supports the new interface presenting speech waveforms when recording a voice note.

As previously stated, WhatsApp has yet to begin testing its Communities feature on Android or iOS, which includes the aforementioned Community Home and the new Community tab. These are likely to initially appear on WhatsApp beta versions before being handed out to users on the stable channel. Similarly, after beta testing is completed, the option to pause and restart voice recordings should eventually be available to all users on the stable update channel.
