WhatsApp has released a new update via the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the app's version number up to 2.22.7.4.
What's new in this version? WhatsApp is working on a feature that will retain vanishing messages in a future release!
There is greater privacy when sending messages in ephemeral chats and groups thanks to vanishing messages, however it is possible that you transmit a really essential message in the conversation when disappearing messages are enabled and wish to retain it in the chat. What should I do? You may temporarily disable disappearing messages, forward the message to the same conversation, and then enable disappearing messages again, although this operation is time-consuming. As a result, WhatsApp is working on a feature that would allow users to save certain texts in the chat:
When you select to retain a vanish message in the conversation, as seen in this picture, a new notice appears asking if you want to keep the message in the chat. If you already saved a vanishing message in the conversation, you can choose to delete it afterwards. If you elect to keep the message, it will remain in the conversation until its expiration date and the receiver will still be able to read it, but they will be able to remove it later.
This feature appears to be at an early stage of development, hence, like with any other feature in development, its purpose may alter before its release, or the feature may be deleted. We will notify you of any more changes in a subsequent changelog.
