Podcasts may soon get their own tab on Twitter. According to reports, the microblogging site is working on a new Podcast option. The planned functionality is likely to be displayed via a microphone icon in the bottom menu bar of the Twitter mobile app. Tapping the button will most likely bring you to a new Podcasts page. The announcement comes only a few months after the business launched a Podcast-like feature on Twitter Spaces that allows users to listen to a recording of the platform's talks. Spaces recordings let listeners and hosts to reach a larger audience.
Jane Manchun Wong, a well-known reverse hacker, discovered a dedicated Podcasts tab on the Twitter app and published an image of the feature in testing. The picture displays a microphone icon on the bottom navigation bar of the Twitter app, which appears to connect to a page labelled Podcasts. The functionality is not yet available to the general public. Twitter appears to be creating the Spaces tab in order to organise all recordings into a distinct page.
In 2020, Twitter launched Spaces to compete directly with Clubhouse. It was first exclusive to iOS users until being opened to Android platforms in March of last year. Since then, the microblogging platform has added a slew of additional Spaces features. In November of last year, Twitter launched a feature that allows anybody to listen to Spaces audio via direct links. It allows users to share direct links to their Spaces with others, and invitees may listen to the audio session without logging into the platform.
In December, Twitter made a recording of the Spaces talks available to all Android, iOS, and Web users. Hosts may now record their Spaces on Android and iOS by tapping the Record Space option.
