HIGHLIGHTS

  • TikTok now permits videos of up to 10 minutes in length on the site.
  • The app just received a video upgrade of 3 minutes.
  • TikTok's goal is to acquire more creative possibilities from the platform's creators.
TikTok, the well-known short video platform, has expanded its video duration to 10 minutes. In July 2021, the social networking app's time restriction was extended by three minutes. Tiktok will now compete with YouTube, which prefers longer video material, with 10-minute films. TikTok began as a 15-second clip app and eventually expanded to 60-seconds. The platform has now received its largest video length increase to date. However, the app is not available in India because it is still illegal in the nation.

"We're always thinking about new ways to offer value to our community and expand the TikTok experience," a spokeswoman told The Verge. We added lengthier videos last year to give our community more time to create and be amused on TikTok. Today, we're delighted to begin rolling out the ability to post movies of up to 10 minutes in length, which we think will open up even more creative opportunities for our creators worldwide."

Users were also notified through in-app notice about the 10-minute video buff. To use the functionality, the user must upgrade the programme to the most recent version.

While TikTok is experimenting with longer and longer content, other sites are taking the other approach and focusing on shorter videos. Instagram has a tool called 'Reels,' YouTube has a feature called 'Shots,' and Snapchat has a function called 'Sportlight.' These are all short video snippets. Instagram just cancelled its IGTV, which was meant to compete with YouTube by limiting video uploads to 60 minutes.
